Lights wont turn off?!!....any ideas?

Took my 2005 V8 AWD 1SG to the local Cadillac dealer yesterday for an oil change...
I drive it rarely anymore.
The last oil change I had was last June at the same dealer. In that time period of 13 months I have only driven the car 600 miles. Car just turned 72K
In any case I drop it off and they do the work and wash the car
I drive off and I notice the lights are on....the twilight sentinel is active so I wait for a few mins in the daylight for them to turn off
.


They dont. I drive the car and run and errand and I keep playing with the switches and the only way I can turn the lights off is to turn them off manually at the stalk.
I go back to the dealership and they question me at first and then see what I am talking about. Anyway...15 mins later they tell me I need a new relay and they need to order the part. $25 plus an hour of labor

as I was typing it crossed my mind that since they washed the car they probably turned on the windshield wipers
. I went out...turned the winshield wipers off. Problem solved. Hard to believe the Cadillac dealer didnt catch that. Oh well

Hi all,*

I have some questions and may need help on how to find a Northstar engine.. The reason I may be doing this is due is because the 05 STS V8 I plan on buying. The guy stated it was having some engine issues and he was going to fix them before I bought the car. And I was talking with my dad and we just had the idea of just buying the car as is and doing everything ourselves. I'm going up to the lot tomorrow and find out what went wrong and to see where we will be with vying it as is and what. I just wanted to know if anyone has done this before to give a lending hand. New cadillac buyer

Hi there! I'm new to cadillac and so I need a few opinions on a few things. First of all I'm 18 and I'm looking at buying a cadillac sets. 2005-2007 years. Now I'm worried about the reliability of the car because consumer reports doest exactly think GM is the best in any way shape or form but I'm trying to find a reason to disagree. So I'm trying to decide between a STS or maybe like an acura or something that is known for reliability. Also worried about parts cost for the cadillac and maintenance. If anyone has any feedback about there car please let me know!

2011 sts headlight assembly

with all the different headlight types available (i have T4F) Is there more than one housing? In other words I need a right headlight assembly because my clear plastic is broken. can I buy a used one that has either halogen or leds or TT8 lights? Will my bulbs, ballast whatever I have fit any housing? Do I just replace my bulbs into the existing lenses?

need rotors for 06 sts v6 awd

I called my local cealership and they told me my brake code was je5 the performance brakes. My car only has 17" wheels. But I ordered them and the back rotors fit fine but my front didnt. The garage said everything seemed to line up but the hub on the rotor was about 1/4 inch to tall and wouldnt fit right. Ive been looking and looking and cant find the specs I need for the awd version of my car for the front rotors. Pls help. Also the rotors I ordered were drilled and slotted if that makes a difference.*

Ashtray part numbers

I cannibalized the ashtray from my 05 since the one that came on my V was stuck shut. I also destroyed the V's ashtray in trying to make it open while removed from the car. So for now, I have the V wood trim on my 05 ashtray intalled in the V. My 05's wood trim is waiting for a donor ashtray.
That being said, there are two part numbers for the ashtrays in our cars:
25790290 - ~$270 - Used in all models from 2005-2007. Wood trim panel sold as separate part.
25895622 - ~$100 - Used in all models from 2008-2011. Common trim panel across all models.

Besides the trim panel change, what makes these different? Why the huge price disparity? I saw an old thread discussing whether the amber accent light was dropped or not at a particular model year, though the question was never resolved. Perhaps that's the key?

Basically, I'd like to order the cheaper one, but want to make sure I can use it. Specifically, does it:
-Have an accent light
-Have the ability to swap trim panels

'05 STS Dash messages.

I have '05 STS with 116000 on it, car is in very good condition. About a month ago I got (2) message saying; Check brake assist and Stability system and the Icon's of the traction control and the ABS lit up. Shutting down the car and restarted it went away, then returned. took car to service place (General Service, not to Caddy) and they did a complete scan and a code scan.



They found the following codes P0318 (rough road) and another code P1783 which said that the front speed sensor was not allowing the Transmission to communicate, further research said to replace the front wheel hub. That was done and everything stopped until this past weekend, the same 2 messages re appeared.

Returned to shop, they rescanned and found that there is nothing in the codes other than there were 3 references that the message center sent. deleting these codes once again, the entire system was scanned again and everything passed. Started to pull the car off the rack, bingo once again the same exact messages appeared along with the icons mentioned above.

Dose anyone have a clue as to whats going on?

Are TT6 and TT8 Headlamp Assemblies Interchangeable?

A friend in Europe has an 08 STS and wants a pair of good used HID headlight assemblies. Using Compnine, I found that this car (which was originally built for export to Saudi Arabia) had option code TT8.

Here in the USA, TT6 headlight assemblies are much more prevalent and will fit into his budget. Are they interchangeable, or do I need to find TT8 assemblies for him?

1999 Deville owner thinking of buying 2011 STS Platinum

I bought my 1999 Deville in 2006. Replaced the engine in 2008, infamous head gasket issue. I love the car, but it is getting old. I found a 2011 STS Platinum with 30K miles with all the goodies. Looks great, drives great and priced well. With the experience I had the the 1999 Deville, I told my self that I would check the forums before I ever bought another car. So what can you tell me about the 2011 CTS? RWD, 3.6 Engine. I cannot afford a new one, so I would like to find a new Cadillac, that I can get paid off before retirement. ANY help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

07 STS4 Rear Shocks Help Please

I just bought my wife a fully loaded of course black on black lol STS4 4.6 with 135km on it. Overall car is in pretty good shape just needs a bit of TLC. Rear suspension is shot, Sagging and I don't hear the compressor kick on at all. Haven't had a chance to check the fuse yet.

I do have the (F55) suspension, so what are my options?
I'm planning on replacing both shocks and the compressor but no yards around me with any STS's AT ALL :S I've seen lots of threads but no real answer.

Please help.

Installing new timing chains- found some issues

I've been pulling parts for the last 3 nights and got the timing cover off last night. Found two somewhat alarming things-

1st, the bolt holding the left idler sprocket (I believe that's what it's called- I'm pointing to it in the picture below) is broken. I guess the timing cover itself kept it together... I'm not sure. It also looks like it has not been that way for long. I'm not sure if I'll be able to extract it but I will try tonight.

2nd- the oil control valves all have some metal on them, and it appeared that the further towards the driver's side the more metal on the screens of the control valve. I thought about it this am and should have checked to see if a magnet would pu the flakes... no apparent metal in the heads and the oil itself looked fine.

The PO said he was driving the car when all of a sudden it lost power. It did crank and run (I drove it on to the trailer and off the trailer into the garage) but rattled badly at startup. Sounded like the timing chain to me.

SO... do you think the metal on the valves could be from the engine's exhaust valves? Is this engine FUBAR because of the snapped bolt? Should I pull the heads and check the valves?

How many amps can a 7181-8297 relay handle?

I'm finally going to replace the weak OEM horns, of which one works only sometimes, with four working 70's Fleetwood horns I found at a Vegas junkyard years ago. However, will I need to wire this up with a new, higher power relay, or will the original system do it, do ya think? I see there is a 15A horn fuse, which may be the max. I can always just wire them up and see if either a fuse blows or if they sound weak, I guess.

Nah, I should do it right...I have a brand-new 30A relay for just this purpose, and some 12 ga. wire around...somewhere.

Oh, and the nose is apart because the right headlamp's ballast connector was corroded on one terminal... /facepalm

At least there's no cost beyond the time spent in a garage when it's 105F outside.

Took the driver's side apart and cleaned it, too, being as I'm in there, already.

LEDs are going into the turn indicators and fog lamps, too, 'cause I do NOT want to take this apart, again, EVER!!!

New Nav Disc

STS 05 won't start

Hi,
I have a a cadillac sts 05 V6 (3.6L automatic) with 200K Kms, at the begining the car dont wanted to start (no crank, dash and all accesories were working), there is a clicking from the fuse box all the time I plug and unplug the baterry and all the time I try to start the car.

Scanner tool codes:
P0700
U0100

What I tried:
1.Buy a new battery (tested) it didn't work...
2.Tested all fuses and working good
3. Removed all fuses and cleaned the fuse box with electronic cleaner
4. Delete codes but they always come back
5.Unplugged the TCM and nothing

Now:
I leaved the battery unplugged all the night and put it back and the car started but it crank a lot some times to start and another probleme come with the car won't stop, all accessories and the board shut off but the engine stay running for 20 seconds before it shut off.

And I have like a door open sound and the board flash at the same time (1 second flash) my doors are all closed, I was scare about that because I dont wanted it to drain the battery, so to stop this I removed the TCM fuse (the car dont start without it), I tried unpluging the TCM but the sound still there.

Passenger Door Handle Antenna Failed + Alarm Problem

Mine is a 2009 STS European Model, so I believe the alarm system is modified compared to the US one. We have a tilt sensor and battery powered sounder in the trunk.

My problem is the alarm keeps going off at random, and my local GM garage (not Cadillac dealer) has a compatible Tech II which has diagnosed a faulty passenger door antenna for the auto unlocking. This is the only error showing on the alarm system.

My garage also said the alarm had gone off enough times to overflow the alarm memory buffer which he reset for me, suggesting that it might not trigger as much?

Is it feasible that this antenna error could randomly trigger the alarm system, as it's going to be very expensive to replace here in the UK as my only proper Caddy dealer is now 60 miles away, so I have to hire a vehicle if they need to keep it for a few days.

Would turning the proximity system off and just using the fob to lock/unlock turn the door antennae off to stop the alarm triggering, or do you think any fault on the alarm system is going to cause problems?

I also wondered if the proximity system could be disabled with a Tech II which might cure the alarm problem?

While testing, I also found that the drivers emergency key cylinder just spins and does not open the door. Should this be a mechanical mechanism? I'm guessing it was not reconnected when the drivers antenna was replaced when I first got the vehicle.

Any ideas guys?

Hello everyone, just bought a 2005 STS V8 a few days ago and when I scanned it last night it came up with 6 dtc's. The actually runs really well..

P0102
P0340
p0341
p1101
p0171
p0174

Now I haven't even took the engine covers off yet..probably do so the next I have off. Not familiar with the cam sensors or where they might be located..maybe front engine, and by the looks of the the rest of them the car has to be running lean, (lack of fuel lack of air). I know there is probably a variety of things to look for that might be causing the car to throw lean codes, but you guys are far more experience with the Northstar so could you guys point me in the right direction.

Unable to adjust steering wheel/unable to remote start 2005 cadillac sts v6

Hello, new to forums and I have a couple issues I've been having with my car that I'm hoping I'll be able to get help with.

My first issue I've been dealing with is the controls for adjusting the steering wheel has not worked since I've started using the vehicle. I don't know where to start checking to try and fix this.

My second problem is, my remote start wont work. I have a check engine light on all the time, since I received the vehicle. I've replaced the plugs, battery, and alternator without any luck. I brought my car to a local store that checked everything they could and everything passed the tests. soon later my car died and wouldn't start, AAA came out and couldn't get my car to start either or figure out why. They towed me home and that night i replaced my starter with a new one. and my check engine light went away, and I was able to start my car remotely... for two weeks. then it all started again. I'm hoping someone would be able to help me out or point me in the right direction. Thank you for reading my post!

Please help - keys locked

I just got an 05 STS, and am already fed up with the automatic locking doors. I disable all the "auto-lock" features in the menu and they still automatically lock. Just locked my fob in the car. It beeped 3 times quickly and I couldn't try to open the handle fast enough but it was too late.

Also, when I got the car, I only got one fob and its fob #2 if that makes any difference. Also, can any locksmith make a duplicate hard key just to pop the doors in a case like this?
